In my 16 gallon aquarium most of my fishes dwell near the bottom of the tank.
They wont bother the loaches and the pleco since they live on the bottom but they are fairly territorial and will chase off any fish near the waters surface. This diminutive size makes them a good choice for a smaller aquarium. They spend all their time at the top focused on the surface for any prey. The only fish I see swimming near the top is my betta.
